Lync 2010 cannot start. The product license may be expired

If you receive this message :

“Microsoft Lync 2010 cannot start. The product license may be expired because you are using a pre-release or evaluation copy of the program, or the product key information may have been modified in your Windows registry. Please uninstall and then reinstall Lync.

then you have used the wrong installer. Probably you used the lynceval.msi, which is the evaluation version. So what you have to do is download the correct version, for example from the MSDN site after logging in with your account.

Is it possible to apply a Product License Key to Lync 2010 client 64-bit? Only the 32-bit client is available for HUP, even though HUP is valid for 64-bit Windows installations, but the 32-bit Lync client refuses to install on 64-bit windows.

I don’t think that is possible.
HUP is for home use, to use Lync, you need a Lync server (or Office 365) at your company. Do you have any chance to talk to you System Administrators to give you the correct client and version?

My office does have a Lync server, so that’s not the issue. The trial version of it works fine. My problem is that only the 32-bit Lync installer is available via HUP, which would be fine if it actually worked.
